| Monte San Martino rises from the Monte Casale mountain range, situated between Lake Garda and the Judicarian Valleys, above the village of Lomaso and southeast of Lundo. The summit (980 m), secured to the south by the Passo San Giovanni, offers an excellent view over the whole area. This means that the location serves not only as a spectacular observation point, but also as an important strategic checkpoint. The route linking the central Alps with the region around Lake Garda and the Po Valley passed through here and opened up the most important Alpine passes from antiquity to modern times. |
